How Martial Arts Can Make Your Child Stronger

How Martial Arts Can Make Your Child Stronger

Sooner or later, we all face a challenge that may seem overwhelming. And as you may know, discipline and perseverance can be valuable keys to overcoming obstacles in life. Martial Arts make you physically and mentally strong. Moreover, they build confidence. In martial arts, strength is usually not defined as the ability to lift something heavy. Strength is both a physical and mental concept. Read on to discover the five main ways martial arts training at our school can make your child stronger.

1. Martial arts make your child strong by helping them push their limits

In toddlers, fine and gross motor skills are still developing. The aforementioned skills are specially designed for this important developmental phase and can help the child improve their balance, develop greater body awareness, and reach physical milestones. In adults, we often see that a lack of (proper) movement can lead to (among other things) physical limitations and imbalance. By getting physical activity at a young age in a good and fun way, children learn healthy habits that benefit them throughout their lives.

2. Martial arts
can make your child stronger by encouraging them to step out of their comfort zone

As we know (especially as parents), it can be quite a challenge to teach our children to concentrate. A very important part of our training for toddlers is helping them develop concentration and focus. Through their senses and using games, Kung Fu exercises, and breathing techniques, we teach our children in a playful way to improve these skills.

3. Martial arts can make your child stronger inside and out

An unbreakable ‘warrior‘ spirit is central to practicing Kung Fu. This means not only discipline but also strength, respect (for others), self-control, focus, and emotional stability. These are valuable lifeskills that make a child more resilient and thus stronger, even outside our Kung Fu academy.

4. Martial arts can make your child stronger by enabling them to defend themselves against bullies or serious attackers

It is a fact that the world can bring danger. Even the seemingly harmless threat of a bully can have significant mental and emotional consequences for a child. At our academy, we naturally teach children self-defense. Martial arts training can give a child the confidence that he/she can protect themselves when necessary. This provides calmness and mental strength in threatening situations. Knowing they can handle a threatening situation changes their perspective on the world. It gives strength.

5. Martial arts can make your child stronger by raising the bar a little higher

In the process of practicing Kung Fu, a child will have to work hard and endure some discomfort (within realistic limits). This is part of the training because it is also part of life. Children who keep training will naturally make progress and get closer to the goal. It gives them confidence and a valuable lesson: if I work hard, I can achieve anything!

These are five important benefits related to (inner) strength that children can experience when practicing a martial art, at least within our academy. At KEI Kung Fu, we find it crucial to have a holistic view of the child’s development process. This is because we know that the effects of practicing martial arts are not only physical but also mental, emotional, and social. The lifeskills children gain through these trainings help them excel, both in our Kung Fu classes and at school and in life.
